Digital trends 2010 – 10 things that’ll become prevalent

After the consumer trends a few days ago, here comes Pete Cashmore (founder of Mashable.com and definitely a guy who knows what he’s talking about) and presents his view of the top trends in the web for 2010:

  1. Real time web: the web experience (consumption & production) will become more and more instant
  2. Localization: Information in the web will be linked to local data and thereby open a whole new level for the internet
  3. Augmented reality: a layer between the real and the digital world will become platform for untold experiences
  4. Content curation: Be it your social graph or professional curators, filtering information is and becomes more and more crucial
  5. Cloud computing: data and even applications won’t stay on your computer much longer
  6. Internet TV & movies: this area of entertainment will more and more migrate to the web
  7. Convergence: why carry more than one device with you?
  8. Social gaming
  9. Mobile payments: as everything becomes digital and real time a proper solution for payments on the go will break through
  10. Fame abundance & privacy scarcity: What you wanna do when they come for you?

10 crucial consumer trends for 2010

Trend spotting company trendwatching.com just released their report about 10 most crucial consumer trends for 2010, here you go.In short:

  1. business as usual: Forget the recession: the societal changes that will dominate 2010 were set in motion way before we temporarily stared into the abyss
  2. urbany: Urban culture is the culture. Extreme urbanization, in 2010, 2011, 2012 and far beyond will lead to more sophisticated and demanding consumers around the world.
  3. real-time reviews: Whatever it is you’re selling or launching in 2010, it will be reviewed ‘en masse’, live, 24/7
  4. (f)luxury: Closely tied to what constitutes status (which is becoming more fragmented), luxury will be whatever consumers want it to be over the next 12 months.
  5. mass mingling: Online lifestyles are fueling and encouraging ‘real world’ meet-ups like there’s no tomorrow, shattering all cliches and predictions about a desk-bound, virtual, isolated future.
  6. eco easy: To really reach some meaningful sustainability goals in 2010, corporations and governments will have to forcefully make it ‘easy’ for consumers to be more green, by restricting the alternatives.
  7. tracking & alerting: Tracking and alerting are the new search, and 2010 will see countless new INFOLUST services that will help consumers expand their web of control.
  8. embedded generosity: Next year, generosity as a trend will adapt to the zeitgeist, leading to more pragmatic and collaborative donation services for consumers.
  9. profile myning: With hundreds of millions of consumers now nurturing some sort of online profile, 2010 will be a good year to introduce some services to help them make the most of it (financially), from intention-based models to digital afterlife services.
  10. maturalism: 2010 will be even more opinionated, risqué, outspoken, if not ‘raw’ than 2009; you can thank the anything-goes online world for that. Will your brand be as daring?

Brand experience in a digital world – Research

Razorfish, famous for their excellent standing in digital marketing, but also their extensive, always insightful research in this field (the latter is probably the reason for the first) recently published FEED: The 2009 Razorfish Digital Brand Experience Report.
They surveyed 1000 so called ‘connected consumers’  analyzing their online engagement and behaviour, especially their buying decisions. The ‘connected consumer’:

  • Appears across all ages
  • Spends $150 per month online
  • Visits community sites and consumes digital media
  • 65% of consumers ever had a digital experience that changed their opinion about a brand (this, then, had a influence on the buying decision of 97% of these guys)
  • 76% welcome brand advertising on community sites & 40% friended a brand on Facebook /  Myspace

More facts and striking figures in the presentation. Even more in the PDF report, but foremost: the ‘connected consumer’ is increasingly becoming the new mainstream:
‘FEED’ presentation:

Android’s web usage beats Iphone

Just saw this interesting eMarketer research showing that Android smartphone users are not only catching up, but even beat Iphone users in terms of web usage.

Given that Android is quite new, this is impressive I think.

What are they doing? Of course, sharing media, social networking etc. The usual these days.

#interactivemonday – brief wrap-up what’s cool out there

Interactivemonday is a label for interactive/digital work on Twitter invented by the renowned mrktng blog www.adverblog.com. People share what they like dot.

#1 this honestly astonished me: the level of openness and honesty, hence the risk First Direct bank took with this attempt to really start conversations – what means that they allow pos. and neg. opinions on ther corp. microsite. Impressive. http://www.live.firstdirect.com/

#2 brilliant viral by VW showing how one can really change behaviour by making dull things fun

#3 Fancy Audi A4 car configurator using a quite advanced touchscreen (this really happened at the IAA fair this year)

Cheers,

F
